Ames Osram and Crytur jointly create a new color conversion laser module to achieve higher brightness, tighter beam and smaller size
• Crytur's new MonaLIGHT laser module provides peak luminous intensity in narrow beams, which is easy to be coupled to optical fibers or photoconductors;
• Ames Osram blue laser diode directly converts phosphor to generate broad spectrum light;
• Crytur transmissive phosphor innovative technology carries out beam shaping and color conversion, providing high optical efficiency in applications.
Ames Osram, the world's leading optical solution supplier (stock code of Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS), and Crytur, the world's leading optical equipment manufacturer, jointly announced that the latest MonaLIGHT laser module launched by Crytur combines the PLPT9 450LB of Ames Osram_ E blue laser diode and Crytur new phosphor conversion technology.
Crytur's MonaLIGHT B01 module can generate a beam of incoherent high power visible light. This beam can be more effectively coupled to optical fibers or waveguides than LEDs.
The module is based on the powerful blue laser diode PLPT9 450LB of Ames Osram_ E (5W, TO90 metal can package), combined with a special transmissive phosphor converter produced by Crytur. Different from the traditional phosphor converter for scattering laser beam, Crytur phosphor shapes the beam into a narrow angle and converts the blue light of the laser diode into a wide spectrum visible light output (spectral bandwidth: 500 nm - 650 nm).
MonaLIGHT module can provide peak light intensity that LED technology cannot reach, up to 7000cd. When the luminous flux is 1100lm, the electro-optic conversion efficiency is at least 80lm/W. The light beam of the module has a narrow 8 ° viewing angle and a very low light collection rate<0.2 mm2 sr. For space or weight limited applications, the MonaLIGHT module is ideal, with a diameter of only 12mm, a length of 24.1mm, and a weight of 18g. Compared with traditional laser modules, MonaLIGHT provides higher optical efficiency at lower cost. In addition, the light output of the MonaLIGHT module will not produce a speckle effect.
"Crytur has made a breakthrough in phosphor technology, making full use of the high luminous intensity of the PLPT9 450LB_E laser diode to enable the MonaLIGHT module to produce specific colors and high efficiency, which is an ideal choice for many applications." J ö rg Heerlein, product marketing director of the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said: "It is an impressive technical achievement that such a small and light module can produce strong light output with excellent characteristics."
Modular architecture supports custom configuration
The modular structure of MonaLIGHT enables Crytur to configure the output to meet specific customer requirements. Customer specified optical components, such as band-pass spectral filters, optical guides and lenses can be built into the module. High integration enables customers to build very compact and efficient optical components. This makes the module very suitable for many applications, including scientific instruments (such as visible light or fluorescence microscopes), machine vision systems, and head up displays in avionics systems.
The MonaLIGHT B01 module can be sold worldwide through authorized distributors of Crytur products.
Laser diode PLPT9 450LB_ E has been mass produced and can be purchased directly from Ames Osram and authorized dealers.
