NXP's imaging radar technology helps NIO achieve high-level intelligent driving functions by significantly improving sensor resolution and expanding detection range

The extended radar function enables cars to more accurately identify, distinguish, and classify objects, bringing more safety and driving comfort

The NXP imaging radar chipset is an ideal choice for advanced and high-performance front-end radar applications, enabling the implementation of L2+level and higher autonomous driving services

NXP Semiconductors N.V. (Nasdaq stock code: NXPI) has announced that NIO, a leading global high-end intelligent electric vehicle brand, will adopt NXP's leading automotive radar technology, including its groundbreaking imaging radar solution. Enzhipu's latest 4D imaging radar solution has powerful technological advantages far beyond traditional radar, which will help vehicles significantly improve the performance of the front radar, enabling it to identify and classify other vehicles, vulnerable road users or objects within highways, complex urban scenes, and distances of up to 300 meters, bringing higher road safety and driving comfort to automotive users.

Nowadays, car manufacturers are increasingly focusing on introducing safety and convenience features into vehicles to elevate autonomous driving services to a new level. Enzipu's imaging radar technology extends the radar's functions from measuring distance and speed to detecting direction, angle of arrival, and horizontal altitude. High resolution point clouds enhance environmental mapping and scene understanding, enabling the detection and classification of objects beyond the human eye's line of sight while measuring object velocity, almost unaffected by weather or lighting conditions. This technology enables cars to "see" a motorcycle approaching a large delivery truck, or a child entering between parked cars, which is key to improving road safety and protecting lives.

Enzipu's imaging radar solution is an ideal choice for advanced and high-performance front-end radar applications. They belong to the NXP radar product portfolio series, providing seamless performance scalability and software and hardware design reuse across radar platforms. By combining radar processors and transceiver chipsets, high-performance RF technology is used to provide efficient radar processing, achieving L2+level and higher autonomous driving services.

Pan Yu, Assistant Vice President of NIO Supply Chain Development, said, "NIO is committed to providing users with an experience that exceeds expectations. We believe that intelligent driving experience is a key aspect and also a core competitiveness that enterprises must develop. We believe that NIO, together with NXP, will further advance our goal of improving driver experience

Torsten Lehmann, Executive Vice President and General Manager of RF Processing Business at NXP, said, "NXP's imaging radar technology provides high-resolution target and feature detection, which can accurately image the surrounding environment of cars, enabling automakers to provide higher quality ADAS and autonomous driving functions. NIO adopts NXP 4D imaging radar technology, which demonstrates leading automakers' recognition of the differentiated performance and efficiency of this technology

Enzipu's radar product portfolio

Enzhipu provides a complete set of radar sensor solutions that can achieve 360 degree perception of the vehicle's surroundings. The scalable sensing solution suite covers the increasingly diverse use cases and architectures of automotive manufacturers, from angle radars to high-resolution 4D imaging radars. The S32R platform provides a general architecture for software reuse and rapid development, high-performance hardware encryption engine (HSE), wireless update (OTA) support, and conforms to the latest encryption standards. The latest member of Enzipu's expandable radar product portfolio is the industry's first radar single-chip IC SAF85xx series based on 28nm RFCMOS, dedicated to meeting the automotive electronics applications of the next generation NCAP.
