Allegro MicroSystems introduces a new isolated gate driver IC that achieves leading power conversion density

AHV85110 is the first release in the Power Thru product series, providing twice the power density and simpler and more efficient system design


Allegro MicroSystems (NASDAQ: ALGM), a global leader in motion control and energy-saving system sensing and power semiconductor solutions, has announced the launch of a new power Thru isolation gate driver AHV85110. This isolation gate driver provides a single package solution that can drive GaN FETs, making it the first product in the Power Thru product series. Compared with competitive products in the market, this solution reduces the market share by 50% and improves efficiency by 40%.

The global clean energy market requires power system designers in the automotive and industrial sectors to generate, store, and use energy more efficiently, while wide bandgap silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) field-effect transistors (FETs) can provide significant efficiency advantages at the system level, but they also face significant integration challenges.


The implementation of traditional gate drivers requires isolation of gate drivers and separate isolation power supplies. During system assembly, the connection between the driver, power supply, and FET may introduce unnecessary noise and generate electromagnetic interference (EMI), thereby reducing system performance. Reducing these impacts may result in more design complexity, increased project schedule time and cost, as well as the volume and weight of the solution.

•By using only 50% of the design footprint (saving PCB space), higher power and efficiency can be provided.


• Reduced Bill of materials (BOM) quantity and production costs.


• No bootstrap circuit and isolated power supply are required, while minimizing common mode capacitance, thereby reducing the workload of EMI Filter design and improving the overall efficiency.


•When collaborating with multiple GaN FET suppliers, there is no need to completely redesign the power module, enabling reliable and scalable design processes across platforms.
