NXP launched advanced car radar single chip series for the next generation ADAS and auto drive system
● Enzipp's first 28nm RFCMOS radar single chip is suitable for a variety of safety-critical ADAS applications, including automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection
● Single-chip solution consists of highly integrated RF front-end and multi-core radar processor
● DENSO Corporation will deploy the latest radar technology of NXP to support the development of the next generation ADAS platform
NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ stock code: NXPI), a leader in the automotive radar industry (information source: Yole Intelligence), recently announced the first launch of the new 28nm RFCMOS radar single chip series, which is applicable to the new generation of ADAS and auto drive system. The newly launched SAF85xx single chip series integrates the high performance radar sensing function and processing technology of NXP, which can provide higher flexibility for first-tier suppliers and OEMs, support short-range, medium-range and long-range radar applications, and meet more challenging NCAP security requirements. NXP has been taking the lead in technology for more than 15 years. The introduction of the single-chip radar series has further enriched its advanced radar product portfolio, further providing a safe environment for drivers and reducing accidents. DENSO Corporation, which focuses on cutting-edge radar technology, is a major customer of NXP and also chooses to use these innovative technologies.
Mr. Hiroshi Kondo, head of the security system business department of DENSO Corporation, said: "The advanced radar sensing technology of NXP is crucial to accelerate the development of the next generation of ADAS. We believe that with the help of NXP's compact high-performance SAF85xx radar SoC, DENSO will expand our leading position in ADAS."
NXP's new car radar SoC series includes high-performance radar transceivers and integrates multi-core radar processors built on NXP's S32R radar computing platform. Compared with the previous generation of NXP products, the RF performance of SAF85xx doubled and the signal processing speed increased by 40%. This single chip series can provide 4D sensing function for angle radar and forward radar, and is applicable to many safety-critical ADAS applications, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lateral traffic warning and automatic parking. Thanks to the higher flexibility provided by the new series, OEMs can meet the expanding NCAP security requirements and the surge in the number of radar sensors. Some analysts predict that each vehicle will be equipped with at least five radar sensors in the future.
Combined with the power management and connection solutions of NXP, the system solution can more flexibly meet the current and future needs of OEMs. Developers will also benefit from the seamless scalability of S32R series and the reuse advantages of its software and hardware design.
Torsten Lehmann, executive vice president of NXP Semiconductor, said: "Our new radar single chip series can provide reliable support for remote detection of objects, and can also distinguish small objects next to large objects, such as cars on the multi-lane highway with heavy traffic and motorcycles running fast around trucks. The single chip series is compact in shape, and the specifications of radar sensor modules built by customers can be reduced by up to 30%. DENSO and other global ADAS system suppliers can use this powerful new technology to One step to improve radar security. "
