Samsung Electro-Mechanics started mass production of power inductors for automotive electronics
This is the first time for Samsung Electro-Mechanics to mass produce power inductors for automotive electronics. Power inductance can prevent sudden changes in current and provide stable power for semiconductors that process autonomous driving information.
The power inductance developed by Samsung Electro-Mechanics has two sizes, the size is "2016" (representing a width of 2.0mm and a length of 1.6mm), and the capacity is 1.0uh and 2.2uh respectively.
The performance of a power inductor is usually determined by the number of coils (copper wires) that can be wound inside a magnet (a magnetic object). The power inductor of Samsung Electro-Mechanics is a thin film product formed by forming thin coils on the substrate. Samsung Electro-Mechanics said: "Compared with the winding products winding coils on magnetic bodies, the film products have higher productivity and are easier to miniaturize."
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed its own high-quality magnets by taking advantage of its MLCC technical expertise. It uses photolithography (a manufacturing method that uses light engraving circuits in semiconductor substrate manufacturing) to form coils with precise small spacing. It can also be used for other applications, such as advanced driving assistance systems and infotainment systems in vehicles.
The power inductor market is expected to grow by about 9% annually and reach $3.65 billion by 2028. The growth rate of power inductors in the automotive electronics market is expected to be around 12% per year.
